Steward Welcome Kit

Thinking of leading your Circle? This is everything a new steward needs for the first weeks. No experience needed, and you can hand over at any time.

Your First Week

  1. Step 1

    Claim Your Presence

Stewards need a claimed Presence (business, organisation or person). It is free.

    Find And Claim Yours →
  2. Step 2

    Join Jacobs Well Circle

The first claimed Presence in the area to join a Circle with no steward becomes its founding steward. Tick the box confirming you live, work or run a business in or near the place.

  3. Step 3

    Print The Flyer

Each Circle has a printable flyer with a QR code. Put it on your counter, noticeboard or shop window, with permission.

  4. Step 4

    Personally Invite Three Locals

Send your Circle link to three people who already care about the place: a customer, a neighbour, a nearby business. Ideas spread best person to person.

  5. Step 5

    Ask What Locals Want

Locals who back the Circle can say what kind of business they would like nearby. Their wishes show on the Circle page, so you know who to invite next.

  6. Step 6

    Set A First Catch-Up

A coffee, a walk or a short meeting at a local business. Pick a simple rhythm (for example, “First Tuesday, 7:30am”) and tell each new member when you welcome them. Set it in the Circle Workspace, with the ready-made Agenda.

The Path To An Active Circle

  • Forming: your Circle starts here. Approve join requests and welcome each new member.
  • Active: once 12 Presences are Active members. Aim for a mix: trades, food, health, community groups and residents.
  • City Network: forms when 3 Circles in the same City are Active. Nobody starts a City.
  • Stay in touch: visit your Circle at least every few weeks. After 42 quiet days, an Active member may step up as steward.

What A Steward Never Does

  • Send bulk or cold emails. Invite people you know, in person or one to one.
  • Offer cash, prizes or rewards for joining, backing or reviews.
  • Say or suggest the Circle is endorsed by a council, club or government body.
  • Make an unclaimed business look verified, or speak for a business that has not joined.
  • Share backers’ names. Backers are counted, never named publicly.
